Supporting Summer Lunch and Snack Programs

Posted on July 10, 2025 | Latest News

As schools across Maine have closed for the summer, many children face uncertainty about where their next meal will come from. To help address this need, Downeast Credit Union is donating $4,000 to support six organizations providing summer lunch programs throughout the state.

This year, the Summer Lunch Program at Downeast aims to deliver an estimated 2,590 meals to children who rely on school lunches during the academic year through the following organizations:

  • Bowdoinham Food Pantry
  • Indian Township in Baileyville
  • Mount View Schools in Unity
  • Rose M Gaffney School in Machias
  • Waldo County YMCA in Belfast
  • Woodland Jr/Sr High School

For many families, the end of the school year means the loss of a consistent and reliable source of nutrition for their children. Community-based summer lunch programs—offered through schools, food pantries, and local organizations—play a vital role in bridging this gap.

Downeast Credit Union is proud to support these programs and help expand their reach to ensure more children have access to nutritious meals and snacks during the summer months. Supporting initiatives like these reflects our ongoing commitment to building stronger communities and helping individuals lead full, successful lives.
