New Fraud Alert: Auto Repossession Scam

Posted on October 17, 2025 | Fraud Defense

Scammers are posing as car repossession agents and showing up at homes late at night, demanding immediate payment. In one unsettling instance, a fraudster even had specific details about an individual’s loan balance—information that was likely stolen from physical mail.

👉 Remember These Key Safety Rules:

  • Your lender will always notify you in writing before any legitimate repossession proceedings begin.
  • Legitimate repossessions do not typically happen in the middle of the night. They follow a standard, documented process.
  • Take caution when opening the door to someone you don’t know. Never hand over cash, checks, or sensitive personal information to a stranger demanding immediate payment.
  • Verify Everything: If you’re ever unsure about a transaction or a demand for payment—regardless of the situation—call your credit union or lender directly using the main phone number listed on their official website before taking any action.

Our credit union wants you to remain safe and protected from financial crime. We are always here to help verify any suspicious activity.
