Knowing What Your Credit Union Will Ask For

Posted on May 4, 2024 | Fraud Defense
Please beware of scammers claiming to be from Downeast Credit Union.
There have been instances of Members receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be a DECU Team Member or our Fraud Department.
Theses scammers claim that there is fraud on a Member’s account and proceed to ask for card numbers, online banking credentials, and/or one-time passcodes. With this information, it could allow the scammer to transfer money out of the Member’s account.
Downeast Credit Union will NEVER call you seeking personal or financial information. If something seems suspicious, please hang up and call us directly at 800.427.1223.
Here are some tips to keep in mind to protect yourself:
-NEVER give out personal information such as account numbers, online banking credentials, passwords, debit card, or credit card numbers.
-Use caution if you are being pressured for information immediately.
-If you get a phone call from someone who says they represent Downeast Credit Union and it seems suspicious OR if they are asking for sensitive account information, hang up and call us directly at 800.427.1223 to verify the authenticity of the request.
