We are searching for a Centralized Loan Processor to be housed in one of our branches in Baring, Baileyville, Brewer, Calais or Topsham. The chosen candidate will become an advocate for our membership and will assist our team in accomplishing all objectives associated with the “People helping People” philosophy.

The Centralized Loan Processor must reside within the State of Maine

Position Purpose:
The Loan Processor is responsible for processing consumer loans in a manner that builds and maintains successful member relationships by funding and servicing loans to member’s complete satisfaction, while simultaneously ensuring that supporting documentation and records are accurately prepared according to DECU’s policies and procedures. Meets or exceeds all funding goals with minimum errors, processes loans in a timely and consistent manner. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively prioritize, multi-task, and be detail oriented and act as a support to the loan sales team.

Essential Functions:

  • Fund up to $1.25 million in loan volume each month
  • Consistently meets or exceeds goals.
  • Provides an excellent member service experience by relating well to the member, proactively offering products and services that benefit the member, thinking and exercising sound judgement, and acting responsibility in the member’s and credit unions best interests.
  • Maintain a .25% maximum error rate on total loans funded each month while consistently meeting deadlines, funding goals and efficiency requirements
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of consumer lending products, services and processes.
  • Perform quality control checks on each loan prior to processing to ensure accuracy, compliance with the credit unions policies and underwriting guidelines
  • Ensure files are completed and uploaded to core in a timely manner (48 hours for most loans-72 hours for private sale)
  • Displays a commitment to excellent member service and strong interpersonal skills by building and maintaining positive relationships with various vendors, internal partners, and team members.
  • Communicates effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Follows up with key individuals immediately (within 24 hours) to resolve problems and/or respond to inquiries. May seek assistance for more complex issues.
  • Continually find opportunities for ongoing professional growth and learning.
  • Proactively find ways to support the lending department’s goals and work collaboratively with co-workers.
  • Effectively manage time and resources.
  • Ensures underwriting criteria is within the approving underwriters limits
  • Assist loan sales team by obtaining payoff’s, necessary documentation and communicate with borrowers to schedule and coordinate closings, and communicate information needed at before and at closing; (ex: verification of income, insurance information, repayment method, etc.)
  • Execute, assemble, and verifies accuracy of all loan files to ensure compliance; including but not limited to obtaining proper signatures, dates and other relevant data; review data after system upload for accuracy
  • Responsible for perfecting and filing liens on all Title and UCC collateral and reporting it to the Director of Loan Processing
  • Other duties as assigned, also to include cross training within other departments

Position Purpose:
Build strong member connections, drive sales of credit union products and ensures member satisfaction by understanding financial needs, offering personalized solutions, resolving issues, and fostering loyalty, while also leading/supporting branch teams and meeting financial targets.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Member Relationship Management: Develop and nurture long-term relationships with existing and new members. Conduct needs assessments, provide tailored financial advice, and offer personalized solutions to meet member goals.
  • Sales & Business Development: Identify new business opportunities, and actively seeking new members, cross-sell credit union products (loans, accounts, investments), and achieve branch sales targets.
  • Financial Advisory: Manage the branch’s budget and control expenses. Analyze financial performance, prepare reports, and forecast financial needs for the future.
  • Customer Service relation: Resolve complex member issues, address inquiries promptly, and ensure a high level of member satisfaction.
  • Branch Operations management: Manage the day-to-day activities of the branch to ensure smooth and efficient functioning. Collaborate with branch staff, ensure operational efficiency, and maintain compliance with policies and procedures industry regulations, and applicable laws. Identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Staff supervision: Recruit, train, and manage branch team members, which includes setting performance goals, conducting monthly one on one meetings, and providing coaching and motivation.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Track sales metrics, maintain client records, and report on performance to management.
  • Community engagement: Promote the company’s brand by maintaining a positive, visible presence in the local community.

Subprime Auto Lending Underwriter

Direct & Indirect Auto Lending

The Subprime Auto Lending Underwriter is responsible for underwriting, credit risk management, and portfolio growth.
Underwriter will evaluate, structure, and approve consumer auto loan applications for borrowers with sub-prime credit profiles across both the direct and indirect auto lending channels. This role balances member service, responsible lending practices, and portfolio growth by identifying lending opportunities that fall outside traditional credit standards while maintaining sound risk management.

Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate and underwrite loan applications submitted through dealership/Indirect lending partner and our direct channels.
• Review credit reports, income documentation, debt-to-income ratios, payment history, and collateral value.
• Structure loan terms including loan amount, term, rate, appropriate collateral and stipulations based on risk profile.
• Apply sound credit judgment to balance member service with responsible risk management.
• Clearly document underwriting decisions and rationale within the loan system.
• Perform Applicant Interviews when necessary, based on risk profile
• Assist lending staff in structuring loan options for members who may not qualify under traditional lending guidelines.
• Provide guidance to lending staff when evaluating complex or sub-prime credit situations.
• Support lending staff in identifying solutions that help members improve their financial position.
• Apply appropriate stipulations to ensure loan quality and proper documentation.
• Maintain strong working relationships with indirect lending partners to support loan growth.
• Ensure underwriting decisions comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and fair lending guidelines.
• Maintain consistency in underwriting decisions across both lending channels.
• Monitor loan performance trends within the sub-prime portfolio.
• Escalate high-risk or exception requests when appropriate.

Education & Experience
• 5 + years of consumer lending, underwriting, or credit analysis experience preferred.
o 2-4 specifically in subprime lending
• Experience with indirect auto lending and dealer relationships is a requirement.

Skills & Competencies
• Strong credit analysis and underwriting skills.
• Knowledge of consumer lending regulations and compliance standards.
• Ability to interpret credit reports, income documentation, and collateral valuations.

Outbound Lending Expert | Sales

The Indirect & Direct outbound Lending Expert is responsible for maximizing member value and expanding lending relationships by identifying opportunities to grow the credit union’s consumer lending portfolio across both the indirect dealer channel and direct member relationships.

This role focuses on deepening relationships with members who originate through the indirect auto lending channel, while also proactively identifying opportunities to recapture loans held at other financial institutions.

Working closely with members, branch teams, and lending staff, the Cross-Sell Lending Expert develops strategies to expand member relationships through proactive outreach and consultative conversations. This position promotes additional lending solutions including consumer loans, credit cards, home equity products, mortgages, and insurance referrals to better serve members while strengthening portfolio yield and overall loan growth.

The Cross-Sell Lending Expert also plays a key role in identifying loan recapture opportunities, increasing products per member, and ensuring the credit union fully captures the relationship with members who begin their journey through indirect financing or existing member relationships.

Indirect Lending Strategy

  • Identify opportunities to expand lending and deposit relationships with members originating through indirect dealer channels.
    • Develop and implement cross-lending strategies that increase loan penetration per member.
    • Analyze weekly indirect lending volume to identify cross-sell opportunities and trends.
    • Support the credit union’s goal of converting indirect borrowers into long-term members.
    • Partner with dealership-originated borrowers to identify additional lending or financial needs following loan funding.

Direct Lending Recapture Strategy

  • Identify opportunities to recapture loans held at other financial institutions through proactive outreach and member engagement.
    • Review auto loan recapture opportunities.
    • Monitor ACH payments to external auto lenders to identify potential refinance opportunities.
    • Identify HELOC opportunities with qualified homeowners who may benefit from home equity lending solutions.
    • Re-review previously declined loan applications to determine if members may now qualify for financing.
    • Identify opportunities to increase products per member through additional lending solutions and protection products.

Member Relationship Development

  • Contact members following loan funding to identify additional financial needs.
    • Educate members on available lending products including auto loans, personal loans, credit cards, home equity, mortgages and auto and home insurance referrals.
    • Deliver exceptional service by ensuring cross-lending conversations focus on member benefit and financial wellness.
    • Maintain compliance with all lending regulations and internal policies.
    • Provide consultative recommendations that help members improve their financial position.

Performance & Reporting

  • Track and report on cross-sell performance including:
    Loan recapture success
    Indirect cross-sell conversions
    Products per member growth

Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and working relations with DECU personnel.

  • Exhibits respect and professionalism with Down East Credit Union personnel.

We Are Seeking Candidates With

  • 3–5 years of experience in outbound consumer lending calls.
