The preferred requirements are as follows:

  • 1-2 years Member Service experience preferred
    • Will provide training and education to the ideal candidate who is a great cultural fit, even if no experience in the financial industry
  • A strong knowledge of internet and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate and cross service CU products
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player who is self-motivated, organized, detail oriented/multi-tasker
  • Kind, caring and passionate in helping others
  • Actively participating and contributing within your local community
  • High-School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Certification

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome members and visitors to the credit union in a professional manner. Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate service in the processing of transactions.
  • Provide in-person and by-telephone general and specific service-related information concerning credit union services or policies, including types of available accounts, interest and dividend rates, payroll deduction options and other related services and fees associated with transactions.
  • Respond to email or other electronic requests submitted by members, again providing professional, prompt, efficient, and accurate service, and information.
  • Other duties as assigned; ask for a full job description.

This full-time position offers a generous base salary, benefits available upon date of hire are an 80% employer-paid medical plan, 100% employer-paid dental and life insurance plans, a 401k retirement program where the employer provides a 5% match, an average of twelve-paid holidays, and up-to five weeks paid vacation per year.

Director of Collections

The Director of Collections provides leadership and strategic direction to the collection and loss mitigation efforts of Downeast Credit Union’s loan portfolio. This position is responsible for overseeing collection efforts by analyzing the credit quality of the portfolio, managing delinquent accounts, implementing collections strategies, and the loss provisions and allowance for the loan and lease loss methodology. Collections efforts include working with borrowers to make their payments, recovery efforts, and disposition of collateral. The Director of Collections is responsible for directing and motivating the collections team, in meeting organizational goals and collaborating with key stakeholders to achieve organizational objectives. The Director of Collections also ensures compliance with state and federal credit and collection rules and regulations in all collection practices. This position can be remote, in one of our branches, or a combination of both. The Director of Collections must reside in the State of Maine.

The Director of Collections performs a variety of duties, including, but not limited to the following:
• Manages the overall operations of the Collections department, which includes handling seriously delinquent accounts, complex collection issues, and those accounts recommended for charge off, in collaboration with the SVP of Lending & Branches;
• Responsible for accounts and safeguarding security on foreclosure, repossession and assets in liquidation. Prepares for and attends all court hearings for Credit Union loss litigation, in both state and federal court. Collaborates with attorneys on foreclosures and expedited collections;
• Works with other lending management to enhance both internal and external member service, addresses substandard Commercial, Consumer, mortgage and home equity loan underwriting trends;
• Assists with development policies within area of responsibility to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations;
• Supports internal and third-party audits;
• Prepares the monthly calculation of current expected credit loss (CECL) and assesses the appropriateness of reserves:
• Assists in and prepares statistical information and reports for management and regulatory agencies, including the Call Report on a quarterly basis;
• Provides management to Collections employees. Directs work, assists with problem solving, supports professional development and coaching, performance management and work/life balance;
• Other duties as requested.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
• 3-5 years of collections or similar experience, preferably in a financial institution;
• Previous supervisory experience required;
• Minimum of a high school diploma required; a bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Qualified candidates will be member service oriented and demonstrate excellent critical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

Insurance Account Manager

Position Overview:

The account manager works closely with our clients to provide them with the service they deserve. This team member is a problem solver who thrives on building relationships while providing personalized insurance solutions for our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take inbound calls from potential clients to gather initial information for quoting of new business.
  • Quote new business, close deals and follow up accordingly.
  • Process requested changes to policies with carriers.
  • Perform account reviews with existing clients and recommend improvements to their current policies.
  • Remarket renewals as necessary.
  • Handle billing issues and process claims as they arise.
  • Follow up on requests from insurance carriers.
  • Perform clerical functions including: answering agency phone calls, processing ID Cards, Binders, Evidence of Property, Certificate of Insurance, Cancellations, assisting in processing client payments, and other duties as assigned.
  • Document all necessary information in the agency management system and processes activities in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Continually develop strong knowledge of insurance coverages and carrier appetites.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with clients, fellow team members, and insurance company representatives.
