The 84th DECU Annual Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, 2026!

The Board of Directors invite you to attend the 84th Annual Meeting of DECU:
Tuesday, April 28, 2026

6:00pm Meeting & Dinner
Jeff’s Catering & Event Center, 15 Littlefield Road, Brewer

Enjoy a fun social hour and delicious meal while you have the opportunity to engage with the Downeast Board and Team. Hear some great stories on how DECU is helping our members and the communities we serve. This is the forum to provide feedback on how you would like to see YOUR financial institution run.

Meet our Incumbent Nominees for the Board:

Gerry Cox

  • Title: Associate Director
  • Date of Membership: 1979
  • Volunteer on the Board: 2006
  • Occupation: Retired Electrical Engineer; worked at the Woodland Mill for entire career.  Various positions such as Electrical and Instrument Superintendent, Manager of Maintenance and Engineering.  Spent 2 years in the Marine Corps in Vietnam era
  • Current/Past Volunteer Efforts: Mr. Cox was a Volunteer EMT for 10 years in Baileyville, and was an original member of the Baileyville Utilities District for 20 years. He also served on our Supervisory Committee from 1990 to 2006.
  • Educational Background: Graduated from Woodland High School in 1965, and graduated from UMO in 1969.  Attended a BSIT Program at USM
  • Residence:  Mr. Cox resides in Baileyville, Maine with his wife Chris in the summer months, and during the winter months, resides in Englewood, Florida where he plays bass every Wednesday with the Cowboy Chords Club.

 

James Enman

  • Title: Director
  • Date of Membership: 1987
  • Elected to the Board: 1999
  • Occupation: Store Owner at Richmond Farm and Home Agway​​​​​​​, Richmond, Maine.
  • Current/Past Volunteer efforts: Served as a Scoutmaster; Serves on the Board of Directors of DECU.
  • Educational Background: University of Maine Augusta, Business Program.
  • Residence: Mr. Enman resides in Richmond, Maine with his wife Doreen.

 

Mason Pottle

  • Title: Chair of the Board
  • Date of Membership: 1984
  • Elected to the Board: 1992
  • Occupation: Retired Engineer from Woodland Pulp and Paper.
  • Current/Past Volunteer efforts: Served as a coach for the Baileyville Recreation Department. Baileyville Utilities District; Chairman of the Baileyville Board of Appeals; and serves as Board Chairman for Downeast Credit Union.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the Maine Maritime Academy.
  • Residence: Mr. Pottle resides in Perry, Maine with his wife, Sandra.

 

Bob Proulx

  • Title: Associate Director
  • Date of Membership: 1994
  • Volunteer on the Board: 2011
  • Occupation: 8th grade school Teacher in Princeton, Maine for 30 years.  For 8 years, worked as a contractor for Custodial Services for Calais Regional Hospital and Baileyville Town Offices.  Now he enjoys retirement.
  • Current/Past Volunteer efforts: Worked on the Princeton Emergency Squad in the past and currently a Volunteer at Waldo County General Hospital, as well as Volunteering for events at the Belfast YMCA
  • Educational Background: Belfast School System and the University of Maine at Machias
  • Residence:  Mr. Proulx resides in Belfast, Maine with his wife Janet.

 

Mike Whalen

  • Title: Director
  • Date of Membership: 1999
  • Elected to the Board: 1990
  • Occupation: Retired Woodland High School teacher of 32 years; a retired U.S. Customs & Border Protection officer with 24 years of service; and a Vietnam War Veteran who served in the United States Army for 3 years.
  • Current/Past Volunteer Efforts: Mr. Whalen is serving as a board of director for Downeast Credit Union.  Mr. Whalen served many years on Downeast Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee.  He is a retired member of the Maine Teacher’s Association and the National Education Association.  Mr. Whalen is also a member of the American Legion.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Maine in Presque Isle.
  • Residence: Mr. Whalen resides in West Enfield, Maine with his wife, Cynthia.
