Who is eligible for membership?Membership at Downeast Credit Union is open to those who live, work, worship or attend school in the following Maine counties: Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Sagadahoc, Waldo and Washington, as well as the towns of Brunswick and Harpswell in Cumberland County. Membership is also available to immediate family members of existing members, those living in the same household and organizations of such persons who all live within the field of membership.

The first step to becoming a member is to open a share savings account with a minimum deposit of $5.00.
What documents will I need to open a youth account? 1. Minor's Social Security Card
        - Photo ID if available in conjunction with SS Card
 2. An adult age 18 or older must be on the account
        - Must have valid photo ID
        - Address verification if applicable
How old does a member need to be to get a debit card? - We offer debit cards starting at age 13 with a checking account.
 Debit cards can be used to purchase items at stores, online or at ATMs.
How old does a member need to be to apply for a credit card or loan?Members 18 and older may apply for a credit card or loan and must show proof of income.

*Quarterly $100 Contest Giveaway: Members of Downeast Credit Union ages 13-21 may complete a quarterly quiz to enter the giveaway. Quiz should be delivered in person or mailed to your local branch by the last day of each quarter. One random entrant will be selected each giveaway period and funds will be deposited into their DECU savings account. No purchase necessary; alternate option to enter is to send a postcard with your name, phone and address to your local branch. Winner may be responsible for any taxes on the winnings and may be asked to sign a media release. Federally Insured by NCUA.
