The community is invited to attend a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the new branch of Downeast Credit Union (DECU) located at 460 Wilson Street, Suite 1 in Brewer. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will involve DECU Team Members, the Brewer Mayor, Michele LaBree Daniels, City Counselors and the Brewer Economic Development Team. Appetizers and light refreshments will be provided by Jeff’s Catering.

Downeast Credit Union recently moved from 24 Springer Drive in Bangor to its new location at 460 Wilson Street in Brewer. Both locations are owned by Rick Harnum of Harnum Holdings, who allowed the credit union to build the new space to suit as our Team made the move from Bangor to Brewer. The project began in 2019 with a market analysis by Bancography, real estate search with Harnum Holdings, project design by TAC Architectural Group, and construction by E.W. Littlefield. The completed project includes a 2-lane drive-thru, interior ATM, large conference room space, 2 expert care offices for new accounts and loans and a welcoming lobby.

“Downeast Credit Union and our subsidiary organization Downeast Insurance look forward to serving the Brewer community. An extensive search brought us to 460 Wilson Street in Brewer, knowing it would be an accessible location to serve our existing and new members,” states DECU marketing director, Kristie Libby. “We truly appreciate the work our landlord and vendors have put into the new location and especially our membership for being so supportive during the move.”

Downeast Credit Union has been serving membership in our area since the organization was founded in 1941 as St. Croix Federal Credit Union and celebrated its 80th anniversary last year. St. Croix Federal Credit Union was originally chartered to serve employees of the Baileyville mill, wanting them to have access to affordable loans and optimal savings products. Over the years, the credit union has expanded its geographic reach and now serves over 22,000 members across eight locations in Maine. The People Helping People philosophy was the cornerstone of the credit union’s charter and that still rings true today, 81 years later, as DECU remains committed to serving the hard-working people of our region.

DECU branch manager Jessica Raymond adds, “Our Team of employees is proud to serve our membership and remains a trusted source for the Downeast region’s banking and insurance needs. We look forward to sharing the excitement of our new location with the Brewer community.”
