The Marketing Assistant supports the execution of marketing strategies, campaigns, and community initiatives across the Downeast family of companies. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional who brings creativity, strong digital skills, and a willingness to learn.

The Marketing Assistant plays a key role in social media, content creation, video production, and design—while also providing essential administrative and project support to ensure campaigns run smoothly and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

Content Creation & Digital Marketing

  • Develop and schedule engaging content for social media platforms, including graphics, short-form video, and captions aligned with brand voice and goals
  • Assist in planning and maintaining monthly content and events calendars
  • Assist with website content updates, including product pages, blog/news content, and career listings, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with brand standards
  • Capture and edit photo and video content for campaigns, events, and storytelling
  • Monitor social media performance and recommend improvements based on insights and trends
  • Stay current on digital trends, tools, and platform updates to enhance reach and engagement

Campaign & Project Support

  • Assist in planning, designing, coordinating, and executing marketing campaigns and promotions
  • Support the creation and review of marketing materials including advertisements, emails, newsletters, direct mail, press releases, and collateral
  • Collaborate with team members and external partners to ensure timely and accurate delivery of campaigns
  • Help maintain brand consistency across all channels and materials

Community & Event Support

  • Assist in planning and executing community sponsorships, events, and volunteer initiatives
  • Capture content at events for use in social media and marketing efforts
  • Support logistics, coordination, and follow-up for marketing events and initiatives
  • Assist in coordinating Downeast volunteer programs and employee participation incentives
  • Help coordinate fundraising and donation efforts in support of the Ending Hunger in Maine Campaign

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Provide administrative support to the marketing department, including document preparation, file management, and project coordination
  • Maintain organized digital and physical marketing files
  • Manage inventory of marketing materials and coordinate reorders as needed
  • Assist with branch marketing audits to ensure campaign accuracy and consistency

Research & Continuous Improvement

  • Research marketing trends, audience insights, and competitive activity
  • Identify opportunities to enhance products, services, and member engagement through marketing
  • Support reporting efforts by gathering and organizing campaign performance data

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Graphic Design, or related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • Strong interest in social media, digital marketing, and content creation
  • Experience with design and content tools
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a team environment
  • Positive attitude, creativity, and willingness to learn
