Downeast Credit Union & Downeast Insurance to Limit Lobby Traffic at All Locations
(MARCH 17, 2020) – As part of a statewide coordinated effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Maine banks and credit unions are joining together in the move to digital and drive-thru services. Banks and credit unions will be moving most business to drive-thru only and online digital access to accounts. At Downeast Credit Union and Downeast Insurance, our lobbies will be closed starting Wednesday, March 18th.
Maine has the oldest population in the country, many of which fall into the high-risk population. DECU recognizes that closing our lobbies can create an inconvenience for our members, but it is in our best interest to keep our communities safe.
“DECU will be relocating our employees to align with Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on social distancing, offering some to work from home. Other employees will be moved to alternate offices and conference rooms, answering phones to help enroll our members in online banking, mobile banking, and other digital access options,” states DECU Vice President of Lending and Operations, Tonia Lanier.
DECU is available to assist over the phone at 800-427-1223, in the drive-thru, or through our online and mobile services:

• Mobile Banking & Mobile Deposit
• Debit Card
• Credit Card
• Mobile Wallet (Apple, Google & Samsung Pay)
• ATM Locations (free access through SURF & CO-OP)
DECU encourages members to sign up for and utilize these services above as a first option to access your financial information. For help in enrolling in any of these services, call our friendly team at 800-427-1223.
We will continue to conduct certain Shared Branching transactions through the Drive-Thru. Those interested in using DECU locations for Shared Branching are reminded to present us with valid photo identification and are encouraged to use the first lane of the Drive-Thru closest to our buildings for identification purposes.
Additionally, Downeast Insurance offices will be closed to client foot traffic, and they encourage you to call an agent for service at 866-897-1365, or contact your insurance carrier directly to make payments.

DECU is working on plans to offer special Hardship Loans, Skip-a-Payment, loan extensions and other assistance, with some restrictions applying. Downeast Credit Union CEO Provides Update on COVID-19
(MARCH 13, 2020) With the World Health Organization naming COVID-19 a pandemic, we all need to be taking extra precautions to ensure our health and wellbeing. I want to assure you that Downeast is committed to being your partner in keeping you, your families, and all of our team members healthy.
We have been following recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Maine Credit Union League to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. Over the last couple of weeks, we have trained our team on more rigorous cleaning procedures within our eight branches, and we have added additional hand sanitization stations and tissues. Our team has been disinfecting high-touch surfaces on a frequent basis, including signature pads. We are practicing proper hygiene techniques recommended by the CDC, like frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. As always, our team is asked to stay at home if they are feeling ill.
In addition, we ask for our members to help prevent the spread of illness. If you feel ill, please avoid visiting our branches and help us keep our other members, team members and families safe. Also we encourage you to be alert and take caution to avoid fraudulent schemes. Criminals are already developing new phone and email phishing schemes, asking for donations to causes or requesting your personal information. Remember, we will never contact you asking for account numbers, passwords or security questions over the phone.
