Membership Benefits

Once a member, you are an owner of Down East Credit Union. The Credit Union is a financial cooperative owned by the members. That means we put any profits we make back into the credit union in the form of new branches and increased services. The credit union is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership. Every member in good standing, of voting age, has one vote. Every year we hold our annual meeting in the Spring where the board reports on the status of the credit union and members vote on the members nominated to serve on the board.

Members also enjoy:
No Service Fee Basic Checking Account
Same day Loan service, in most cases
Competitive Savings and Loan Rates
Access to surcharge free ATMs statewide through the SurF Alliance
$3000 Free Accidental Life and Dismemberment coverage
Convenient hours at 8 branches
Our Drive Up windows are open on Saturdays 9:00 until Noon

Account Types Available

Down East Credit Union welcomes all family members. We have accounts for everyone.

Our youngest members enjoy learning the valuable lesson of saving with our Monty Moose Youth Savers Program. Members ages 2 through 12 earn Moose Bucks, with each deposit they make, which they can spend on fun things at Monty's Trading Post located at each branch. Monthly t-shirt give-aways and special events make this a fun and educational program for our youngest members.

For our members ages 13 to 18 we offer the Cash Control Program, helping them learn the basics of managing their finances before they leave home. Cash Control members can learn to use an ATM or Debit Card and with a parent, can open a checking account. Members in this age group can also learn how to begin building credit. And for some fun, every time a Cash Control member makes a deposit over $10, their name is entered into our quarterly $50 Cash Control drawing.
