Down East Credit Union often gives away balloons, usually to happy little children but Unity member and vineyard owner Clem Blakney was overjoyed when the credit union said yes to his unique request for balloons. Clem wanted to put Mylar Balloons in his vineyard to scare away the birds that were feasting on his crop of grapes. His idea was to have balloons with the Credit Union's logo on them in his vineyard, which is on a busy highway leading to the very popular Common Ground Fair. Down East would be advertising and he could protect his crop. This was a win-win for everyone.

On Saturday, August 22nd the grounds of the beautiful Plant Home in Bath was awash in great music, good food and fun. Under a beautiful summer sky the attendees ate and enjoyed the sounds of Bruce Hardina, Jason Spooner Trio, Iron Bridge, The Boneheads and Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations. As the sun began to set the evening air was charged with the sounds of Motor Booty Affair and the dance floor in front of the stage was crowded with happy people anxious to "shake their booty". A little after nine the perfect day wound down with a spectacular firework display over the Kennebec. All proceeds for this event went to the Plant Home. In support of the Plant Home and its mission, Down East Credit Union offers a Plant Home Debit Card program, click on the Plant Home card on our Home Page to learn how you can help.
